The inquest, concluded last Wednesday in Rich- mond, laid: no blame in the incident Dec. 2 1976 when Sande and his companion Sam Alexander, 38, of Steveston, Active Pass with a 65-foot dragger, the ‘‘Miss Jean.’’ The bodies of the two men were recovered from the fishing vessel, but .rescuers failed to locate the third crew member Louis Cortina of Vancouver. The ‘‘Miss Jean,’’ enroute from Vancouver to Victoria to load some ice to go fishing, was sighted by B.C. Ferry | Queen of Saanich. The capsized boat later was towed ashore by another vessel, At the time authorities could find no visible signs of. the vessel being involved in a collision, which, in some cases, results in a_ boat sinking. The jury concluded it was impossible to offer any recommendations since there was no evidence pointing to what happened. to the ‘‘Miss . Jean.”’ The jury, however, urged: that a committee be formed to insure that all vessels abide by standards for safety and that any charges in ‘old and new vessels be cleared first by the committee.
