“You'd think it would be dif-
ficult,” Cox says, green eyes
beaming, “but Larry and t were
never rivals. We were great friends
and we shared the same taste.

“4 have come in not to fill his
shoes but to take what Larry of-
fered and take it further. He gave
me a great gift, and | loved him
very much and had great respect
for his work.

“expected it to be difficult but
everyone has been so kind to
me,” she smiles. “The other
thing is, Larry didn’t have much
energy in the end and I'm rudely
healthy and not sick.

“Sill, some people might say,
‘She's not as good.’ But Edan’t
care about that. I'm far too old for
that.”

Will being a woman affect her
approach to the job?

“Oh yes. I’ve worked ina lot
of abusive theatre in my lifetime
where the end result is all that
matters,

breakdown, but now | realize |
