Local gymnasts
competing in
Montreal meet

FLICKA GYMNASTICS Club is
leading the charge for B.C. at the
women’s Elite Canada ’91 starting
Friday in Montreal.

Three of the four B.C. gym-
nasts competing at the prestigious
artistic meet hail from North
Vancouver-based Flicka. Jenny
Campbell and Marlies Ernst, both
15, from West Vancouver, are
competing to qualify for the na-
tional high performance team
while Angela Orange, 13, of
Richmond, is a cuzrent member of
the junior high performance team.
Orange is joined in Montreal at
the junior level by Tammy Stauf-
fer of the Gems Gymnastics Club
in Surrey.

Elite Canada will decide the
gymnasts who qualify for national
carding and who may potentially
represent Canada at internationa!
meets.

Flicka coaches Flaviu Tema and
Janice Fowler and Gems coach
Doug Odin will accompany the

gymnasts to the two-day meet held
at the Gymnix Club.

B.C. Gymnastics Association
president Ken Stewart said, ‘‘All
four of these athletes have a good
chance of receiving national car-
ding this year. The girls have
trained very hard to reach this
level and the B.C. Gymnastics
Association is very pleased to have
them representing B.C. at Elite
*91 in Montreal.”

In !992, Vancouver will host
the women’s Elite Canada. The
Vancouver Trade and Convention
Centre, BCIT, and the Capilano
College Sportsplex are being con-
sidered as possible sites.

Flicka will host two gymnastics
events at the Capilano Sportsplex
in 1992. The North Shore Invita-
tional, featuring teams from
England, U.S.A., Canada, and
possibly China, will be held Feb.
7-8. The B.C. Championships will
be held at the sportsplex, Apri!

Cranbrook curlers invite
teams to March bonspiel

CURLERS ARE invited to come
to the Shamrock Reunion, March
6-8, hosted by the Cranbrook
Lady Curlers.

The organizers are asking
curlers to come with or without
their rink and to bring
memorabilia or stories for the
“Nostalgia and Nonsense’’ event

to be held during the reunion.

Registration for the Reunion
Bonspiel costs $140 per rink with
a $50 deposit. Registration for
non-curlers for the reunion costs
$25.
