A local painter’s fascina-
tion with the barren
landscape of the
Northwest Territories is
starting to pay off.

“Someone said it’s like a
frozen desert, it’s quite majes-

tic, quite rolling.” And appar-
ently others are as impressed by
the landscape as he was. Or at
least they are impressed by his
interpretation of it. The Prince
of Wales Northern Heritage
Centre has purchased a total of

24 paintings by Gibson, some
painted during his time there,
some finished here. It’s the
major museum facility in the
Northwest Territories and the
paintings will join Inuit sculp-
tures, prints, Dene basket work
and clothing in the permanent
collection. Gibson will be
showing here in January with
the West Van Sketch Club at
Park Royal Shopping Centre.
