Driver charged

A B.C. Transit driver has been charged with driving with-
out due care and attention in connection with the death of
a bus passenger on June 1 in the 100-block of East 3rd
Street in North Vancouver.

Bus driver Ronald Wayne Turner, 48, had 19 years of
bus driving experience at the time of the incident.

Ruth Erickson, 68, of North Vancouver, died after get-
ling off the bus through the back door.

‘In a June News report, a police spokesman ‘stated that
Erickson fell between the curb and the bus and was pinned
under its back wheels when the bus pulled away.

Erickson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic cornered

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP plan to step up enforce-
' ment at intersections and target those areas where most col-

lisions occur,

On, Tinrsday, Dec. 21, nine officers will monitor traffic

in the “relevant” areas, and i issue ticket violations for inter-
- section-related offences under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Police say they wili be watching for drivers failing to
Yield right of way, following too close, disobeying traffic sig-
“nals, turning from the wrong lane, failing to yield to pedes-

trians and speeding. |
