Flames gave the home town fans
something to cheer about in West
Coast Junior Hockey League ac-
tion Saturday, Oct. 17, by snapp-
ing a three-game losing steak with

a well-deserved 4-3  come-from-
f behind victory over the visiting

Seattle Northwest Americans,

The win pulled the Flames into a
three-way second place tie with
Seattle and the Burnaby Blue
Hawks, just two points behind the

league-leading White Rock
Whalers.

The Flames opened the scoring
12 minutes into the first period
when Justin George combined with
Dave Port and Steve Harris while
both teams were playing a man
short.

But less than two minutes later,
Seattle knotted the score on a
power play goal and then, against
the run of the play, went ahead on
a goal with only 40 seconds re-

maining in the period to take a 2-1
lead.

The teams traded goals in the
second period, Seattle scoring first
at the three-minute mark, and the
Flames countering less than a
minute later when Ken Savage
tucked a centring pass from Ray
Stonehouse past the Seattle net-
minder to make it 3-2 at the end of
two.

Midway through the third
period, Brian Markert came up
with Flames equalizer, assisted by

Port and Dan Payne,

The game-winner came with just
over two minutes remaining and
the Flames on the power play when
Payne, playing the point, took a
pass from Kelly Lawrence and
threaded the needle with a shot
along the ice that found the mark
just inside the post on the Seattle
goaltender’s stick side.

Over the three periods, the
Flames outshot the Americans
39-29, with Gary Knight in goal
for the North Shore team.
