W. Van actress knows
to Leave it to Weasel

The 29-year-old West Van-
couver actress will be appearing in
A Night in the Alley, an new im-
provisational production at Van-
couver’s The Back Alley Stage.

Stage theatre, Dungey and eight

. other performers in the Vancouver
Theatresports League will present
three improv shows in one.

In a play Leave it to Weasel, she
plays Venus, the main character’s
sister.

Each one of the plays relies
totally on improvisation and au-
dience suggestions.

“We know what each show is
going to be about — say, Venus
runs for president of a club — but
the audience suggests what kind of
club and so on,”’ she said.

Although improvisational

. theatre can be a lot of work for the

actors, there are certain rules -to.
follow that keep the play going as
the audience directs. .

“You never say no. You don’t
ever block (another actor),’’ ex-
plained Dungey.

“You're always advancing and
thinking about beginning, middle
and-end. At the beginning you

“think about the middle, at the
middie you think about the end.”

Acting since her elementary
school days, Dungey did the usual
route of drama classes in high
school and university. At Simon
Fraser University, classes got in the
way of acting. ‘‘Psychology inter-

- rupted rehearsals‘so I dropped it.”
