Time to head for tropics

THE EARLY New Year is the time when the
more fortunate kick their snow shovels into the
back of the garage, discontinue their newspapers
and head south.

I'll go into what to expect

First, a few tips that may
get you off on the right foot
for any winter holiday:

* If ever you need a friend
to drive you to the airport,

wardrobe, to pick you up. .

* Pack lightly! It’s essential,
in the tropics, to keep laun-
dry done up every day or so.
Anything damp will mildew : ‘ ‘ .
rapidly so unless yeu're out
to prove you're. a ‘clothes
horse, take less and keep it
laundered. ;

Be especially “careful of
wet towels and bathing suits
— they don’t dry quickly in.

them outside on a cruise so
wash them as soon as you
take them off and dry them
as much as you can with
towels. If you can, turn the
air conditioning off when
you're out of your cabin.

you can get away with wear-

downright irate at the sight
of naked human flesh -— and
in some cases justifiably so.
To visit’ some churches,
women are expected to cover
their heads — carry a scarf.

* Even though it gets. very. -
hot during the day, you’ll be -
amazed at how cool evenings
can be. Take a sweater.
Some days, especially in the
Pacific as you turn north
after crossing Panama, can
be mighty brisk. Pack a
windbreaker for on deck.
