The Government of Canada recognizes the
fact that all Canadians must work together
in partnership if Canada is to grow and
prosper. This is particularly important now,
at a time when the economy is recovering
and new opportunities are presenting
themselves.

Budget 84 1s designed to allow us to
capitalize on this climate and to provide
the economic opportunity and security
all Canadians seek.

A Fair Tax System

Taxpayers’ rights are being strengthened,
particularty with regard to assessments,
penalties and interest charges. And, quarterty
payments are being eliminated for some
550,000 individual Canadians.

Women, senior citizens and tarmers in
particular, will benefit from increased pension
security New pension legislation will allow
all Canadians better opportunities to save
tor their retirement

Farm Sale — Tax Savings
In order to encourage the continuation: of
family farms, new legislation will be intro

duced that will help farmers to provide
for their retirement adequately

This program will be introduced to enable
homebuyers and homeowners to buy pro
tection against extraordinary increases in
mortgage rates

$180 Million Reduction
in Federal Taxes for Small Business

The net result of simplification of sinail
business tax laws, as well as new initiatives
and provisions tor growing small businesses
will mean a tax saving for small and median
sized businesses of some $150 milbon

( anadhan workers and managers to build
amore productive and competitive ec oneoriry
