SHIRLEY SHIPPIT « and 1 Shirtey Smirke of the Friends of West Vancouver Memorial Library sort so some of the thousands of items to be sold at the library’s book sale, April 7-14. WEST VAN MEMORIAL Biggest 00k sale ever Boating and aiccho!l are a deadly mp. 50% of all boating acadents involve aiconol. | wie Me Canadien Rea Cross Sccety THE FRIENDS oft the West Vancouver Memorial Library are planning the Library’s biggest book sale éver. Slated for the week of April 7-14 the sale will offer thousands of bargains for North Shore book lovers. Most items will be available at a standard price: $1 for a hardcover book and 25¢ for each paperback. However some especially fine reference works will cost a bit more. Book sales are a common practice’ for public libraries. Sometimes the materials are no longer in sufficiently good physical condition to justify retention. Other titles no longer enjoy the demand ex- perienced when they were published. In still others, the content is no longer current. However classics or impor- tant fiction or non-fiction items are abandoned only oN ster te are available or they are literally falling to pieces and can’t be rebound. Because space is limited in the Memorial Library and because the collection is used so intensively by the public, unusually large numbers of items are available for sale. For weeks already the volunteer Friends of the Library have been sorting the books into categories and storing them in boxes, ready day morning, April 7. The sale will last until 5 p-m. on the following Satur- day and will be conducted in the West Wing of the Library, at 1950 Marine Drive in West Vancouver. The Friends could always use more help on this impor- tant drive to raise revenue for the purchase of new books.
