As far as Flicka coach Mike Vossen is concerned, however, the addition of Wittmeier to this year’s team hasn’t so much added a new dimension as strengthened one that was already there. “The chemistry between Bonnie and. Anita (Botnen) works really well,’’ said Vossen. ‘‘It has a good ef- fect on the whole team.”’ You see, the Flicka club already is home to West Van- couver’s Anita Botnen, another national team member, whose close friend- ship with Wittmeier was one of the reasons the Winnipeg native migrated west. The 18-year-old Botnen was no slouch herself, finishing a very close third behind American national team member Yumi Mordre of Puget Sound Rainbows. Mordre scored 36.95, while Botnen had a 36.85. Although the balance beam is generally Botnen’s strongest routine, she uncharacteristically suffered two falls — which, because of point deductions eventu- ally cost her the all-around championship. **¥’m pretty happy with the way this went,’ said Witt- meier, who used the meet to showcase new routines in the uneven bars and the balance beam. ‘‘I’m most happy with the bars because it’s new and the landing was good.”’ ‘‘Definitely, the relation- ship. between the team members helps,’’ added Botnen, who-won the meet in 1981. ‘*You.can really help each other get up as a team. It’s a snowball-effect.” A ease in point was Botnen’s 13-year-old sister, Sandra, who finished fourth overall (36.30) and second in the vault.
