B12 - Sunday, July 18, 1982 - North Shore News The diamond still A free Concerts in the Park series is planned as a continuation of the 75th Anniversary, Diamond Jubilee celebrations begun May 13th of this year. They are presented by the Centennial Theatre, North Vancouver Recreation Commission and the City of North Vancouver. Starting July 17th, there will be a different presen- tation every Saturday through August 2{st at 7:30 p-m. in Mahon Park, 16th and Jones (near the pool). All the shows are intended for family audiences. You are encouraged to bring camp chairs or a blanket to sit on and a picnic dinner to make a full evening out. Ideal for children as well. Of course, if it’s raining the parkles program will be cancelled. The schedule is: July 17th, Alex Storie and His Gathering of the Clans; July 24th, Sweet Adelines per- forming pop and show tunes; Tuly 31, Night on Broadway by Sinclair Productions; Augusut 7th, Anna Wyman Dance Theatre performing some lighter works; August 14th, North Vancouver Youth Band and their High- steppers with a perfect Summer show; August 2ist, Gilbert & Sullivan °82 brought to you by Norman Slack highlighting songs from many G & S shows. (Ken Smith photo) ~ 17th century ships pictured in the gallery loft In keeping -with the Sea Festival this month the West Vancouver Memorial Library is showing the paintings of artist Noel Bliss. His 17th century Dutch Ships sail through billowy seas and beautiful skies. Bliss says, “I paint portrait studies and pastoral scenes but I seem to need to have water in everything I paint.” He lived near the Thames for the majority of his life but later developed an in- terest in painting the rugged Cornish coastline, where the switling mist made the little towns take on a magical look.
