The Vancouver Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association is organizing a door to door campaign and a mail drop on the North Shore during March 7 - 19. “Readers are encouraged to support and give generously. Diabetes is the 3rd medical killer in Canada. It is also the leading cause of new blindness. There are about one Million Canadians with Diabetes. Ap- proximately 150,000 people have diabetes in B.C. Twenty-six per cent are on insulin. Another Fifty per cent don't know they have the disease. For every 20 lbs. of excess body weight we carry around, we double our chances of becoming diabetic. Diabetes can strike at any age and may surface during emotional stress, serious ulness or pregnancy as well as often being related to overweight or heredity. In Vancouver, the C.D.A. offers free support programs to its members, to help people with diabetes learn to live with their condition.
