While working as a_ graduate assistant to the Director of the Scottish Central Library. he was commissioned to do an efficiency report on the library's administrative procedures. Many of his recom- mendations were im- plemented into the system, and it was largely on the Strength of this report that he was chosen sight unseen for a professional position at the Red Deer College in Alberta. In 1977 he was named Chief Libranan at the College. From there he went late in 1978 to the position of Director of Library) and Learning Resources of the Pacific Vocational Insutute with campuses in Burnaby, Maple Ridge and Sea Island. He was in charge of the installation of the library and audio-visual service there. He received a Master of Library Science from the University of B.C. in 1978.
