Poll on whales to be conducted - VANCOUVER (UPC) - The Greenpeace Foundation announced Thursday it has com- missioned a Gallup Poll to canvass Canadian opinion on the killing of whales. Canadian Greenpeace director Pat Moore said ‘ the independent poll would survey public opinion of Canada's recent vote against a ban on ‘commercial whaling proposed at the _ In- ternational Whaling Commission meeting in England. The poll would also ask whether Canadians believe many species of whales were in danger of extinction and whether they think whales should continue to be killed by whalers from any country. Moore said the results of the poll, which was financed from _ private donations, would be known in the first week of October. Canada was the only non-whaling nation to _ vote against a proposed ban on-the killing of sperm whales, supporting whaling nations such as the Soviet Union, Japan, South Korea and Spain, Moore said.
