A Vancouver man is facing fraud and impersonation charges in connection with the haul. SENTENCING pro- ceedings against a North Vancouver lawyer Marijuana were adjourned last week. Delmer Bernard Sokol, 51,° was ‘charged after North Vancouver. Mo said they found marijuana plants grow- ing in the lawyer’s Upper Delbrook house a year ago. Police said they stumbled upon the marijuana-growing sct-up in Sokol’s basement while searching for burglars. On Wednesday, federal Crown lawyer Jay Straith said Sokol was not in court because he was at a B.C. Law Society hearing. Suraith said Soko! was the subject of that hearing. A B.C. Law Society spokesman said that a hearing was not, in fact, under way, but the Sokol incident was under investiga- tion and consideration by the law society. Suspects st vicious lounge fit POLICE are asking the public’s assistance in identifying two men believed to have smashed beer bottles over the heads of three men during a vicious attack at the Avalon Hotel on Nov. 9, 1997, According to North Vancouver RCMP, the three men were assaulted at | a.m. by a group of men in the lounge of the Marine Drive hotel. Witnesses were able to give descriptions for com- posite drawings of two of the attackers. The victims suffered severe cuts on their heads from the broken beer bot- tles. Police believe a possible motive for the attack involved a man getting angry at one of the victims for dancing with a woman asso- ciated with the atrackers. The suspects are believed to be of Middle Eastern or Indo-Canadian descent. Trap snares suspect A radar trap on Feb. 2 lead to the arrest of a Mount Currie man police believe may be linked to burglaries along the Sea-To-Sky Highway. According to the North Vancouver RCMP, the man was stopped in North Vancouver for speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Lynn Valley exit. Police say he was going 103 km-h ina 80 km-h zone. The man did not have a driver’s licence. Police suspected the man’s car was stolen from Pemberton. Police say house-breaking tools and stolen property from businesses and cars were later seized dur- ing the investigation. North Vancouver Mounties were exchanging information with police in other jurisdictions. A 23-year-old man, whose name was not released, is facing charges of possessing stolen roperty. Police say the man fas been convicted of 20 crimes since he turned 18.
