Ella was born in Brandon, Manitoba, grew up in Edmonton and earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics at the University of Atberta. For a year she served as Chief Dietition at a hospital in New York, then returned to the Uaiversity ci Alberta to earn her MO degree in 1937. In 1939 she studied Pediat. tics at New York Infirmary for Women and Chitdren, tn 1940 she and her fisst husband, Dr. Sidney Evans, practiced in Tofino, Subse quently she practiced in Vancouver, and was appointed Ditector of the Nort Shore Health Unit in the 1940's. After the war she joined her husband in london, England and tn 1946 took special training in Pediat- rics there. Or. Ella became interested in art in 1950, studying at the Vancouver School of Art and Portland Museum Art School. As well as being a widely acclaimed artist, Elia was a fine jeweller in gotd and silver, She was an exhibiting member of the Cana- dian Society af Water Color Painters and the Federation of Canadian Ar- tists. She won many Honours at the Physicians Art Salon in Montreal - and was President of the West Van- couver Sketch Club. tn 1959 she martied EFL. MacLeod (Max) in Portland, Oregon. In 1966 they returned to North Vancouver where they «esided until Max's death Juae 8, 1995.
