Grieving mom of slain Deep Cove teen told appeal of

THE MOTHER of a stain Deep Cove teenager said there is
no possibility of a court review concerning the murder ac-
guittal of a Bellingham youth charged in the killing.

Campbell's son, Pat, 18, died
July 5 after being stabbed by a
15-yeur-old Bellingham youth.

The stabbing occurred after a
fight among Canadian and Amer-
ican youths in the Washington
state city.

argument that the youth acted in

Diana Campbell said she spoke
to prosecuting attorney Greg
Greenan about a possible appeal
or review of the mid-December
decision on Tuesday, but was told
that nothing could be done.

The not-guilty verdict cannot be
appealed, according to lawyers on
both sides of the cage.

Said Campbell, ‘This trial had
been in my mind ever since | knew
about it.

“J thought when it’s over,
that’s it, 1 am just going to go on
with my fife. But the way it was

handled, Pm just more upset than
I was before [ went.”

The youth had faced six years in
jail if convicted of the murder
charge.

Campbell, who has three
daughters and recently moved to
northern B.C., said the pro-
secuting attorney told her before
the trial that he wasn’t going to
downplay the fact the Canadian
teens started the fight.
