the hazards of toxins in cosmetics

Vance awoke from an.operation
in [982 to find her health had dete-
riorated dramatically. “My body

as many as 20 times a day. The

Her difficulties were not related
to her operation. as one might casily
conclude. Instead. Vanee figures
the anesthetic she had been given
triggered these and other symptoms.

Vanee was misdiagnosed as hitv-
ing theumatoid arthritis, lupus and
fibromyalgia, before she learned,
seven years later, she was suffering
from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
(CFS).

and its causes fed Vance on a search
for answers, What she found was
that a build-up of toxins in her body
had contributed to her condition.

Like many women with CFS,
Vance had taken pride in her
appearance. As a land developer for
U7 years, it was important lor her
“to look good on the job.” She had
colored her hair and worn acrylic
nails for years.

Launching an investigation of
the chemicals found in personal
sare products, she was shocked by
what she discovered.

“Twas horrified to find ingredi-
ents -— industrial chemicais — long
since banned and at {00 times the
allowable amount,” she says of the
acrylic nails she had worn for 10
years,
