8 ~ Friday, November 12, 1993 - North Shore News Many will continue to die from their ‘harmiul Dear Editor: Catherine Atyeo, in her AIDS article states that, ‘...to read Lautens, “homosexuals have a monopoly on perversion.”* f do not believe Mr. Lautens is suggesting this at all, but the point must be made that others who in- dulge in sexual porversions do not insist that their harmful fifescyles be protected by law, as the pow- erful homosexual lobbyists do. Nor do they suggest that these sexual perversions be accepted as perfectly normal ‘‘alternative’’ lifestyles and demand the right to teach them to children in schools. 1 believe that the majority of people recognize that homosex- uality must be a disorder, since we are created male and female in “order to be able to reproduce ourselves. Therefore, to be sexually at- tracted to a person of the same sex cannot be normal, since the biological purpose of sexual in- tercourse cannot be fulfilled — and the body parts simply do not fit! ‘Hf anyone chose to try and sat- liestyles’ isty his appetite for food by pushing it Chrough his nostrils in- stead of consuming it by mouth, people would surely recognize that this person had a problem and was in need of counselling. AIDS is a 100% preventable disease because it is spread by the behavior of those who do not recognize their need to change and are indignant at such a suggestion. Instead, they try to justify their lifestyles and rely on porous latex sheaths and clean needles to stem the epidemic whilst awaiting some miracle of science to rescue them from certain death, It is tragic that those who present logical facts are accused of suffering from some kind of phobia and that some people can- not differentiate between a sexual orientation (however acquired) and the choice to act on that ori- entation. No one dies from not having sexual intercourse, but many will continue to die by refusing to e ercise their ability 10 say no to drugs and sexual immorality. 31M. White West Vancouver Cheap familiarity uncalled for Dear Editor: ] would like to comment on your youth news column in which Taleeb Noormohamed took issue with Doug Collins. Knowing that 1, personally, would never mect with Collins’ approval, sceing that | am 50% non-white and Jewish into the bargain, [ can say that my sym- pathies, at least as far as the col- umn’s topic is concerned, are with Noormohamed and not with Col- lins, Nevertheless, 1 find it objec- tionable to hear a youngster refer to an older person as ‘‘Collins’’ or even ‘‘Doug.”* The late Harold Weir (whose approbation | would not have earned either) called this sort of thing cheap familiarity. In this case it is also evidence of poor manners and sloppy up- bringing. J.L.
