By Efizabeth Collings News Reporter Steve Badger said the communi- ty response to his family’s plight has been amazing. He credits Dorothy Lynas Elementary School with making every effort to accommodate sevea-year-old Rachel Badger, who was first found this spring to have the rare genetic disorder that leads to the deterioration of the nerves and brain. The disorder has also been diagnosed in her five-year-old sister Melissa. The family was flown to Disneyworld in September by the Make A Wish Foundation of B.C. Family friend Marian Wilson has set up the R&M Leukodystrophy Fund, where people can make donations for the Badger girls at the Royal Bank in the Dollar Shopping Centre. A bake sale and raffle at the Seycove Craft Fair will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 at Seycove Community School, 1204 Caledonia Ave. Raffle items include a_ two- minute shopping sprez at Stong’s Market Led. and a family portrait package from Goodman Studids in Deep Cove. The proceeds from these’ fund- raising efforts will go to the Badgers who plan to spend it on care for the two giris- Badger stressed that ‘even though a suitable donor is forth- coming for Melissa, he hopes people will still register with the Canadian Red Cross Society’s Unrelated Bone Marrow Donor Registry for the sake of other families in need. McConnell suffered back and - spinal injuries in the accident. An RCMP spokesman said two occu- pants of the Camero had fled the scene on foot.
