Slowly unfolding:
Vancouver and its
retrograde promise

REFERRING TO last Sunday’s focus on Vancouver’s
horoscope, April 6, 1886: what adds to the division in our
city’s aims is a square between Saturn in Cancer and

Uranus in Libra.

Family values often come into
conflict with artistic visions, put-
ting a crimp into cultural aspira-
tions. Thus, Vancouver has not
been able to match Toronto or
Montreal in its artistic and intel-
lectual endeavors.

To a great extent, Vancouver's
future is tied to the charit’s four
retrograde planets. Because
retrograde planets are slow to un-
fold their energies, and because
Vancouver is relatively young as
cities go, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter
and Uranus have not yet had the
chance to express themselves fully.
(Note: These ‘‘planets’* to which !
tefer are focal points of con-
sciousness.)

The out-of-sign conjunction be-
tween Jupiter and Uranus in par-
ticular, holds great promise for a
cultural blossoming, perhaps cen-
tred on UBC, that will see our city
attain a level of artistic pro-
minence heretofore unimagined.

will sweep over Hawaii, the
Pacific Ocean, down the length of
Mexico and across parts of South
America. There will be almost
seven minutes of eclipse totality
near Mexico’s western coast.

Here, it happens at 11:07 a.m.
This is the first total solar eclipse
to cross any portion of the North
American continent since 1979. It
won't occur again until 2132.

This eclipse belongs to a cycle
that began on June 14, 1360, with
a partial eclipse near the South
Pole. It will end Sept. 11, 2694,
with a similar event at the North
Pole.

The New Moon is a birthing. It
is the bringing forth of an essen-
tial element of life — a seed idea.

Eclipses point to the ending of
one set of circumstances and the
beginning of another. It augurs
change and reorientation. Such
endings and redirection are vital
to our growth and are inevitable
facets of the process of personal
development.

On July 13° Venus, Mars,
Jupiter, a crescent moon and the
star Regulus will be visible near
the western horizon at dusk. Even
Mercury, closest to the Sun, will
be seen as a small point of light
beside Jupiter,
