(RSI) recently released the 4.7 version of its popular HotelSoft software applica- tion package for the hotel and resort industry. Peter Zandron, RSI president and founder, recently introduced the updated software at a user conference held at the Lonsdale Quay Hotel. The conference was attended by hotel smanagers and people who work with the system from hotels in Alaska, B.C., the Maritimes and Quebec. The software is supported by a 33 megahertz 386 ‘data tower. ““Te’s really not a PC any more, it’s a multi-user platform. We are now using an Olivetti product,’’ Zan- dron said. With 33 megahertz, Zandron says his configuration can ‘‘cheer- fully support 60 terminals.”’ Added Zandron, ‘Because of the speed and capacity of the system it makes it into a very big system. We also have a 486 plat- form which can go up to 120 users.” Hardware, software, and 24- hour technica! support are avail- able in true turn-key fashion. The HotelSoft management system covers hotel reservations, front desk functions, ledger, housekeeping, statistics and back office accounting. In addition to many minor changes, the new release is set up to handle the new GST and multi- ple levels of taxation. Said Zandron, ‘*We have a lot of areas where we could use multi- ple taxing. For instance in Whistler there is a room tax, a resort tax and of course there’s the GST. On top of that there could be a service charge, which is happening a lot in Europe and the Orient. We can combine and specify up to five dif- ferent tax levels, compound them or straight charge them on every transaction.” While HotelSoft is used by hotels with up to 600 rooms, another RSJ package, InnQuick, is designed for hotels with up to 80 rooms. Must one go in to 1.C.B.C. to give a full statement? The main reporting duties are set out in Section 73 of the 1.C.B.C. Regulations and the Insurance (Motor Vehicle) Act. They require the person involved in an accident to do the following: . Promptly provide 1.C.B.C. with written notice with all available par- ticulars of any accident involving death, injury, damage or loss in which a vehicle either driven or owned by you has been involved. . Hf the accident involves damage to persons or property apparently ex- ceeding $400.00 you must report the accident with all particulars to a Police Officer. These reports when filed with the Police are available to I.C.B.C. at any time at its request. . It you are sued, you must cooperate with I.C.B.C. in the investiga- tion. settlement and defence of the lawsuit against you. Note that there is no requirement to actually attend at 1.C.B.C. to provide the information in question, simply that the statement setting out the material particulars be in writing. Presumably mailing of such notice would suffice. If you are sued however, cooperation in the defence will require you to do al! reasonable things which defence of your action may require, in- cluding meeting with 1.C.B.C. lawyers, attendance at Discoveries and Trial, etc. Failure to provide written notice to 1.C.B.C. following an accident, or failure to cooperate in the conduct of the defence of any litigation, may jeopardize your insurance coverage. If you have concerns with respect to the legal responsibility for an accident in which you are involved, it might be wise to discuss the con- tents of the written notice with legal counset before providing same to 1.C.B.C.
