Royals, Spartans, Highlanders win big HANDSWORTH ROYALS, West Vancouver Highlanders and Sen- tinel Spartans emerged as the big winners in the four-meet North Shore high school cross-country season by collecting a total of six individual and six team firsts out of eight age division champion- ships. Senior Lori Durward, the only competitor in any age group to win all four races, led the Royals to the senior girls’ team championship Senior Lori Durward, Barr in the last race, but the Handsworth team captured first. Handsworth’s juvenile girls’ were team winners with Yvonne Passmore of the Royals taking the individual title with firsts in the last three meets and getting an assist from teammate Lynn Westerman who finished ahead of Hillside’s Seonaid Davis in the final race to enable Passmore tc take the overall blue ribbon. Simon Tate of West Vancouver ear cep reres the only competitor in any age group to win all four races, led the Royals to the senior girls’ team championship. with teammates Donovan, Nancy Ferguson, Jane Oddy, Genny Willoughby-Price, Michelle Lachmann, Sheri Stenson and Lisa Eastman. Suzanne Lenobel of West Van- couver, a junior who ran in senior competition, finished second to Durward in each race by anywhere from nine to 18 seconds over courses that took them from 10% to 17 minutes to complete. Ilan Lenohel of Sentinel, Suzanne’s brother, was the overall bantam boys’ champion, although Brackendale won the team title. Rob Ferguson, Nancy’s brother, was second to Howe Sound's Kevin Barr in the junior boys” in- dividual standings, despite beating Katherine won three of the four senior boys’ races for first overall which helped give the Highlanders first place in the team standings. West Van also won the junior girls’ team trophy with Cindy Barber, Cathy Stott and Lisa Thorson placing in the tep three in every race. Sentinel was first in the bantam girls’ standings with Misii Hurst of the Spartans the number one indi- vidual.
