LONSDALE REC CENTRE Programs slated for parents, tots TWO PROGRAMS being offered at Lonsdale rec- Ceatre offer parents an opportunity to interact with their preschoolers. Baby Play enhances physical and social develop- ment of infants three to 18 months using music and movement. Parents help their child enjoy traditional songs, stories and nursery rhymes. “Each week there is also discussion on nutrition, toys and the ages and stages of physical develop- ment,”’ explains instructor Frances Speight-Klatt. The program focus is parent-directed, geared to a specific age group, and everyone is encouraged to actively participate. Parent and Tot Recreation is another parent- assisted program that concentrates on creative play for two to five year olds. The program balances struc- tured and free play through songs, crafts and games in a social atmosphere. For more information on these or other programs call Lonsdale recCentre 988-6166 or check your Winter Leisure Guide. 37 - Wednesday, January 1§, 1989 - North Shore News Purchase best shopping buys From page 36 As cold water enters the tank it sinks to the bottom where the heating takes place. As it heats, it rises to the top, bringing along anything that cares to join it. Plan to use them within three days. They are attractive when garnished with parsley and pimen- to strips. aes Phyllo Pastry Isn’t it odd how we tend to cook in cycles? For example, a coupie of years ago I went through a phyllo (fillo) pastry kick — we ate enough Greek pastries to make Zorba look like an imposter. Haven’t made any in years, but look out, family, here we go again. Phyllo is easy to work with — as long as you treat it kindly. Thaw package completely before gently unrolling. Use one sheet at a time and cover the rest with a damp towel. Using a pastry brush, cover the sheet you’re using with melted margarine.
