time when we begin to organize summer vacations with
kids. People without kids don’t plan summer vacations —

they know better.

I’ve travelled with my kids at all
ages. Perhaps the worst trip I ever
experienced was a solo journey to
Alberta with my eldest daughter,

travel successfully with kids is after
their eighth birthday. By then they
are usually civilized.

However, if you should be so
unlucky as to have to travel with
an infant or small child here's a
checklist. that might save your
nerves on a flight.
® The altitude bothers infants and
small children more than adults. If
the child is still drinking from a
bottle, feed it during takeoff and
landing. Give an older child some-
thing to suck or chew.
® Don’t rely on the airline for any
essential supplics. Carry everything
you might possibly need, especially
disposable diapers, and extra for
emergencies.

e The safest baby formula is the
dry, powdered kind. Prepare your
bottles with a measured amount of
sterile water and bag measured
amounts of dry formula. Mix one
at a time as you need it. These bot-
tles don’t need heating because the
water is at room temperature.

® Discard any unused, open, jars
of baby food.

* Carry disposable, plastic spoons
for feeding.
