In Canada, there are about 200
different mutual funds to choose
from. Some funds offer interna-
tional investments, allowing you to
take advantage of economic peaks
in other countries.

At Bache Securities, account ex-
ecutive Eric Dibb is bullish on
mutual funds that invest in the

Canadian stock market. ‘‘We’re in
the greatest bull market in histo-
ry,’’ says Dibb, noting that the
stock market has doubled since the
recession low of 1981. ‘‘The smart
money now is in the stock mar-
ket.”

At a recent investment seminar,
Dibb predicted that interest rates
would dip a little lower, bottoming
out later this year, before they
start to climb again. He expects the
current bull market (a ‘‘bull’’

market is one in which stocks are
rising) will peak sometime in 1987.
That peak will come, predicts
Dibb, when the Dow Jones in-
dustrial average (which was about
1,880 when Dibb gave his seminar)
reaches about 3,500.

When that peak comes and in-
terest rates have risen, Dibb sug-
gests switching from an equity
fund to a bond fund.
