B2 - Sunday, July 1, 1984 - North Shore News ES Sport MEDIA LEAGUE A long game on a long day ON THE longest day of the year, the longest game of the year was played in the Van- couver Media Quick Pitch League. The two teams in- volved, the North Shore News and the Vancouver Sun, have a great rivalry go- ing, with neither team having more than one run lead for more than one inning. The game was tied at four different times and the lead changed hands another four times as both teams battled it out. Going into the last inning, the score was tied at 10, with the News coming up to bat. The News got back to back doubles by Garry Crossley and Blair Cooke-Dallin, and then a triple by Chris McManis to take a short lived twelve to ten lead. But in the bottom of the inning the Sun rallied to tie the game at twelve, sending it into extra fgnings. The nineth inning was scoreless, but in the tenth the News’ Tim Francis hit a solo homé ‘fun to put the News on top'to stay winning the game 13-12. It was another strong pit- ching performance by Blair Cooke-Dallin, as he struck out six batters and threw oul two more at first. It was a well played defensive struggle by both teams. Both coaches Ken Elliott and Bing Crowsley from the News, and Coach Wyng Chow from the Sun should be pleased by the effort that both teams put out in a most enjoyable, but nerve-racking game. But what a different story it was on Tuesday night, the News squaring off against the Write Sox for the second time this year. The outcomes were the same both times, with the News winning the first 27-5, and the second on Tuesday night 40-8. You could tell that it was one of those games for the Write Sox, as the News hit NS divers in summer A NUMBER of North Shore Divers earned their way to the Burnaby July Games in a three-zone qualifying meet held recently at Ron Andrews Pool. Youngest member of the team is Merritt Hutchins who placed first overall in the boys 13-14 category.
