How long will my perm last

IN MANY ways the very
name, “permanent wave”, is
misleading.

In fact, if it were really

. “permanent,” you would still

need to repeat the operation
Simply because your hair is
continuously growing — at a
rate of one-half an inch a

month.

That means you grow six
inches of new hair every
year, so your “permanent”
permanent would be cut off
in any case.

Of course, permanent
waves do not last for ever
and after a period of a month
they begin to “relax” and the
curls becomes softer. In
many ways, this is an advan-
tage because you are not
restricted to the style you
had on the day of the perm.

’ When your perm is fully
“relaxed”, you have a

“tighter” the wave or the
curlier the result, the longer
the perm usually lasts. On
the other hand, softer, more
“natural” perms sometimes
last little more than two
months.

The reason for the differ-
ence between soft body
waves and tight curly waves
is found in the internal struc-
ture of the hair and the way
in which the perm solutions
function.

For you, the importance
should not be how long your
perm lasts but what type of
perm suits your needs best.
