Runaway truck drama

ends without injury

A TRUCK loaded with house bricks made one of
the most dramatic entrances ever when it arrived
at Horseshoe Bay Monday at noon, speeding
through the toll entrance at 50 mph and shedding

thousands of bricks over parked cars.

The devastation ended
when the runaway truck
came to ai halt on the
Langdale ferry ramp. In-
credibly, nobody was in-
jured as the parked cars —
which received a total of
$14,500 damage — were
unoccupied at the time.

The nightmare run for
Calgary truck driver Rene
Pariseau had begun when
the brakes on the fully
loaded 1981 White truck
failed while travelling down
the steep hill on Highway !
to Horseshoe Bay.

The truck careened past‘a
toll booth at an estimated 50
mph and swerved to avoid
four parked cars inside the
ferry terminal.

Although it missed the
cars, the swerving caused
the truck to shed its joad of
bricks — 38 bundles, each of
125 cubic feet.

The brick bundles landed
on the parked cars, causing
the vehicles to slam into one
another in a chain reaction.
