Putting the right emphasis on Christmas

QUESTION: Be honest now,
do you look forward to
Christmas or do you dread
‘the thought of it? —

STEWART: It's got to be
both. I dread Christmas
mainly because of the
busyness of entering into it
as fully as I would like. I'm
not too keen on shopping for
ribbons and stickers. I don’t
like mince tarts and so many
pople are passionately proud
of their mince tarts and quite
expect me to become ec-
static about them. I think my
main dread is related to the
fact that there are so many
things to DO to get ready. I
am a natural, card-carrying
lazy lout and hate having a
lot of extras pushed my way.
So, yes, I dread Christmas
with a will.

But. (You just knew there

conflict in my personal life
that is not easy for me to
understand. The conflict
exists because I have strong
convictions, especially in
one area of my life, but | am
not living up to _ those
convictions. I better be more
explicit. My convictions I
speak of have to do with
honesty. 1 guess the kids
would call me an honesty
freak. I never take short-cuts
or cheat in anything that has
to do with money; I never
tell outright lies; if I'm
undercharged on a bill, |
always make it down and
then pay the right amount; if
someone at home says, “Did
you leave on that light?” I
say the truth; I never cheat
on my income tax or when
I'm crossing the _ berder.
That's what ['m like and
that’s the way | want to be.
But, if I'm busy or tired
when the phone rings, I say,
“It that's for me, tell them
I'm not home.” Or, if some
one asks what church | go
to, | tel) them the church,
just as though I'm always
there, even If | haven't been
