Argyle Volleyballers undefeated

needed to soar like their
namesakes to capture the
fourth and final playoff spot
in senior girls volleybvall
and that's exactly what they
did.

The Eagle upset second
placed West Vancouver

North Shore hockey fans
were treated to some en-
tertaining, wide-open Junior
hockey action over the
weekend as the Metro
League hosted the Seattle
Ironmen, the 1979-80 US
National Junior C Hockey
Champions.

And what started out as a
two game exhibition series
concluded with the Seattle
team joining the Metro
League as a full time
member.

“I wasn't surprised,” said
Eagle coach, Antionette
Pound. “I believe in them as
much as they believe in
themselves.”

After winning the
Saturday game at Karen
Magnussen, downing the
North. Van Picassos 4-2, the
Seattle team took on the
Northridge Rockets at West
Van on Sunday and came
out on the short end of a 5-2
verdict.

In Sunday's action all the
scoring was confined to the
first two periods, with the
West Van team outscoring
Seattle 2-1 in the first period
and 3-1 in the second.

an outstanding hitting game
for the winners.

Meanwhile, over the
juvenile division, the Lady
Pipers from Argyle finished
off a perfect season with 11
consecutive wins with no
losses.

The girls, who finished

Metros split with Seattle

just under five minutes into
the game but forty seconds
later the Rockets evened the
score when Paul Pattison fed
Mark Ingram’s clearing pass
to Danny Corrigan who
blistered a 35 footer past the
Seattle netminder.

Two minutes later Brain -

Stoddart batted home the
puck from a goal mouth
scramble to put the Rockets
out in front 2-1 heading into
the second.

The Rockets added three
more goals in the middle

pressed all fall, a condition
not expected to apply once
the playoffs begin this week.
