Water rationing system
preferable to taxation

West Vancouver District Coun-
cil's proposal of paying for water
is nothing more than a
discrimination tax on lower in-
comes,

The problem as 1 understand it
is our population has increased
over the years and our water sup-
ply hasn't.

And, because of the waste in
the summer months, we are com-
ing close to running out of fresh
water,

Taxing this, because that's what
it is, discriminates against people
of lower incomes.

Naturally, people of lower in-

‘comes would have to cut back on

the amount of fresh winter they
use.

But oa) person who makes
$30,000 or more a year could use
far more water than someone who
makes $17,000 or less per year.

This tax would not necessarily
cut down on the abuse.

What | propose is some type of
rationing system. This way the
$30,000-a-year person doesn’t use
more than the $17,000-a-year
person, ,

The objective is, after all, to
make the water last for the sum-
mer months and to make sure
everyone can have fresh water.

Campbell not ‘our boss’!

Dear Editor:

The July 25 column by Bab
Hunter under the headline ‘Some
cheers for the new boss lady”
epitomizes the’ serious malaise
from which too many of us suffer.

He writes about telling — his
daughter, with reference to Kim
Campbell: ‘‘See Emily? That’s a
lady who is now the boss of the
whole country...””

Campbell is of course no such
thing as our boss.

She is our prime minister and
that means, literally, that she is

our first servant among all the
other servants that the government
of a democratic country consists
of.

We, collectively, are the boss
and can hire and fire her: at our
will,

It is high time we accepted our
responsibilities for running the
country on a permanent basis and
not just when we filf out a ballot
once in five years.

Truth always hurts someone

Dear Editor:

How fortunate for your readers
to have someone like Doug Collins
writing in your paper!

It’s so refreshing to have him
tell it like it is.

A Sarge percentage of us think
and feel.the same way about his
viewpoints.

better informed and even a little
more courageous.

Oh, to have a man like that in
politics to clean house in all levels
of government!

He will have enemies; the truth
always hurts certain people.

I only wish our newspaper car-
ried Collins! Hang on to him!
