ICBC claims jump 11.4% ICBC RECORDED ‘an 11.4 per cent increase in the number of claims received during the first six months of this year as compared to the same period in 1987. A total of 312,000 claims were received, or 32,000 more than for the period last year. Bodily injury claims increased 11.2 per cent and property dam- age claims were up 4.8 per cent. The upward trend in claims began in 1986. TEL officials are currently investigating a vicious axe attack on a telephone booth recently installed in the Glenmore arca of West Vancouver’s British Propertics. The unknown assailant inflicted an estimated : 30 axe wounds on the standing pedestal booth, which was instailed June 22 at the bus shelter near the entrance of Glenmore Park. B.C. Tel investigator Gord Mackie said the damage ‘‘is some of the worst I’ve ever seen. It’s a total write-off. It must have been somebody extremely vindictive and strong to do that kind of dam- age.”’ He estimated equipment replacement costs alone would be $3,000. The booth was removed Friday. A $100 reward is being offered by B.C. Tet for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons respon- sible for the attack. A plea for Animal’s return was subsequently published in the June 5 News, and last week a Coquitlam family transported the muppet back to its original home and a tearful reunion. Auxiliary member Colleen Manness said the organization was extremely happy to get Animal back. The Coquitlam family’s children were given hand-pup- pets in exchange for Animal, Manness said. Animal, who has removable tonsils, is used as an educa- tional tool in’ demonstrations for children entering LGH for various operations. , He has entertained an estimated 2,000 children in’ his three-year career at Lions Gate. McCreadie and Western Living Magazine’s Jurgen Gothe were both singled out for honorable mention in the awards’ Food Col- umnist category. First place in the category went to Marion Kane of the Toronto Sun and Joanne Kates of the Globe and Mail. McCreadie, a former home economics teacher, has been writ- ing her Budget Beaters column for the News for the past five years. She said the column evolved from a supermarket specials listing into its present food column for- mat. “T used to pick out supermarket specials and throw in a recipe,” McCreadie said.
