The Real Estate Founda. tion, a non-profit organiza- tion which promotes educa- tion, law reform and research in the field of real estate, donated $40,000 far 4 permanent endowment to be administered by the Douglas College Foundation. Income from the endow- ment -~— called the Real Estate Foundation Award — will be awarded as scholar- ships and bursaries to «tu- dents enrolied in zeal estate- related courses at Douglas College. **The Real Estate Founda- tion is a big supporter of public education,’’ says Douglas College president Bill Day. ‘They've taken an extraordinarily entightened approach to heightening the visibility of real estate amongst students. "* The intent of the program is to allow the real estate sector to become a partner in assisting students pursuing industry-related careers. The College's Department of Business and Administration offers a variety of courses relevant to the industry which mect the eligibility criteria of the fund. ‘Our main obligation is to match the $40,000 the Real Estate Foundation has do- nated," says Day. ‘‘This translates into an $8,600 an- nual income that will go di- rectly to our students. With scholarships costing $500, at least 16 people per year could benefit from this pro- gram. Or the income could be used for student aid emergency funds. It's an enormous contribution for us to receive." While matching funds promise to aid students, the program marks another significant step towards de- velopment efforts of the Douglas College Founda- tion. Under an agreement outlined by the Real Estate Foundation, the College has approximately one year in which to match the Founda- tion's donation. Also men- tioned in the agreement is the cligibility of students who are licensed real estate agents or family members of licensees for the awards.
