PREVENT BURST PIPES
Prepare house for
cool weather now

AUTUMN [IS around the corner. When outdoor
temperatures drop, many homeowners’ blood
pressures rise.

Burst plumbing pipes remain close to the top of the
cold-weather-worries list.

You can protect your home from burst pipes by
keeping a small amount of water running through all
faucets when there is danger of a freeze.

Insulating all outdoor conduits also guards against
freezing water. ~

But if a pipe does burst, there is one preven alter-
native to calling the plumber.

Polybutylene (PB) pipe and plastic plumbing con-
nections can be used quickly, easily and effectively to
mend broken copper, galvanized iron and CPVC
plumbing systems.

EASY TO CONNECT

With PB pipe, there are no soldering tools, toxic
adhesives or threading equipment to worry about —
the connections are made with compression fittings
which require only wrenches or pliers for installation.

solution — the damaged pipe sections are cut out and
replaced, creating a lasting connection more depen-
dable than any type of patch.

PB repairs cost less than using copper. It’s a flexible
pipe, so it bends around corners and eliminates the
need for soldered or glued connections.

Expensive tools and torches are unnecessary and
glues or pipe dope should never be used with PB.

Lacewings and ladybugs, on the
other hand, are predators and
nature’s control.

Aphids may also transmit virus
diseases to trees while feeding in
addition to causing tree or plant
daniage.

Unless the ladybugs have your
aphid population under control,
you should act to control them
yourself.

On small plants: spray Safer’s
insecticidal soap.

On larger plants, medium trees:
spray or arrange spraying of
Mealathion or Diazinon in accor-
dance with label instructions.

On larger trees: painting the
trunk with a Cygon solution may
be your most effective control.

A Word About Pesticides:
when used properly, are very safe
and useful tools to protect our
plants.

If you have your trees treated,
use a professional firm.

If you treat them yourself:
strictly follow label instructions,
wear rubber gloves and protect
your eyes, nose, and skin.

Proper and responsible use of
pesticides will help keep our plants
healthy and cause no adverse effect
to either our environment or
