municipal nominations — for
both North Vancouver Ci-
ty’s and West Vancouver
District’s November 16 elec-
tions was Monday.

Mayor Jack Loucks of
North Van City was returned
by acclamation for a two-
year term — this being his
fifth term in office.

said he was happy to be ac-
claimed for the fourth time.

“J hope it’s a sign that cit-
izens are. happy with the
progress being carried out by
council and staff during my
past terms as. mayor,’
Loucks said. .
“Looking to the two years

ticipating continued careful
‘progressive management of
our programs and expen-

making this up, let me quote
the Regel person’s most im-
portant point exactly. It is
clothed in the third-rate
English favored by most
academics, lawyers and
politicians, but if you take it
slowly you may be able to
understand it.

“Assuming that prosecu-
tion may be perceived as a
benefit by the hatemonger —
insofar as it would provide
the opportunity to propogate
its perverted ideas further,
the effect of this perceived
benefit could be reduced by
conducting such trails in
camera,"’

ARGUMENTS

Brilliant supporting
arguments are put forward
for this modest Star Cham-
ber proposal. ‘‘Hate-
mongers’? may believe
anything they like, for in-
Stance, but they would be

beliefs.’"

DON'T OPEN MOUTH

That is strikingly similar
to what we saw in Adolf’s
Germany and past and pre-
sent Russia. In the U.S.S.R.,
for instance, you may believe
anything you like, provided
you don’t open your mouth
at the same time,

Regel’s inept use of the
language would never be
tolerated in your local gin
palace, and any academic
journal worthy of the name
would for that reascn alone
toss his stuff into the slush-
bucket without further ado.
Nevertheless, if you wrinkle
your brainlobes enough it is
possible to decipher his
jargon. | will not bother you
with more of it, but in the
public interest will act as in~
terpreter. Viz:

If ‘hate literature’ were
not available, there would be
no hate problems,

‘*Target groups’’ _
meaning those against whom
bad thoughts are directed —
would thus be fully
protected.

Disappointinaly, he omit-
ted the most obvious and ef-
fective solution of all: sew-
ing people’s lips together.

You think this guy is off
his rocker? If he is, he has a
lot of company. It was the
likes of him that brought the
existing ‘hate laws’? into be-
ing, and those laws are about
to be fortified with a little
stronger legal wine. Given
such progress, is it impossi-
ble that the age of the secret
trial is also about to be
re-born?
