The majority of action in the scoreless first half took place in midfield as Warren Shott and Stuart Morden an- chored a _ solid Carlings’ back-line which managed to hold the Iron Horse jugger- naul at bay. A defensive lapse early the second half, however, pro- vided the league leaders with the only opening they needed when Carlings’ goal-keeper Peter Ward parried a hard shot only to have the rebound Old Crows take out Warriors RON BROWN, scored a hat- trick to lead the Old Crows past the Warriors 6-3. Line- mates Paul Dewitt and Dave Barker were prominent in the attack while Jim Nichols pro- vided a spark tate in the first peniod, giving the Old Crows a 3-0 lead on a beautiful solo rush with his team two men short. Les Kadet responded with two goals for the Warriors, both aided by Jim Brico. The game was rather a scrappy affair, with 15 minor penalties assessed. In one of the _ fastest- skating games of the season, the Canadians built up a 4-0 lead, then held off a third period surge to defeat the Old Buzzards 4-2. Jim Tapp led the Canadians attack with a strong game, scoring once and setting up a second. Buz- zard goals by Arlo Sjoberg and Greg Smith narrowed the lead, but strong defensive work by the Canadians and a couple of key saves by Gary Hallsy preserved the win. Larry Barker moved into the lead in the scoring race with a goal and three assists to lead the Drillers in a 10-3 trouncing of the Firefighters. The scoreless first pernod featured fast skating and strong checking by the Fire- fighters. But they faded in the second under the strong Driller attack; the Firefighter defence could not contain the Driller forwards, who time and again were left alone tn front of goahe John Philhp- son. Ed Holt and Rick Walton each scored twice for the Drillers. Strong solo ef- forts by newcomer Murray Chatwin (twice) and Lada Hampeis (once) provided the Firefighter goals in the third period.
