Al8 - Wednesday, April 7, 1982 - North Shore News Ps community round up WOMEN HAVE INCREDIBLE POWER’ | North Shore women lobby in Ottawa THREE NORTH Van- couver women were among the lobby group who met with the three national parties to press for changes on issues that were raised during the March 12-15 conference of the National Action Committee on the Status of Women. Chuck Cook, North Vancouver- Burnby M.P. (P.C.) com- mented on the North Shore representation to Diana Belhouse, North Van resident and member of the University Women’s Club. Dixie Kilroe represented the North Shore Crisis Services Society (Emily Murphy House) and Nerys Blown was the delegate from the North Shore Women’s Centre. During the Monday morning lobby session, the Liberal party came under attack for demonstrating its lack of interest with so few members attending the session. Both the NDP and PC parties were well represented at the meeting with the lobby group. The National Action Committee on the Status of Women is a voluntary, non- Partisan, non-profit um- brella organization of almost two hundred women's groups across Canada. The organization was formed in 1972 to press for im- plementation of the recommendations of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women. The agenda for the weekend conference in- cluded the election of the 1982-83 executive and the formation of resolutions by the four hundred delegates. Doris Anderson, who resigned last year from the government body. the Federal Advisory Council on the Status of Women, was elected president by ac- clamation. Responding to questions on her reasons for accepting the leadership of this national lobby group, Ms. Anderson stated: “Women have _ incredible power and this is_ the organization that can effect changes.” With a view to wielding some of that power and effecting changes, 175 women from the weekend W.V. man honored VICTOR CUE of West Vancouver has been named to the Honour Roll of Outstanding Disabled Athletes and Builders. which is on display in the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Cue was given the honor ata Lions Club banquet and ball held April 3 at the Coach House. He was one of the founders of the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association in 1967, and also coached B.C.’s_ wheelchair basketball team from 1962 to 1978. A long time West Van- couver resident, Cue _ has also served as head coach and athletic director for the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association from 1967 to 1976. At the banquet Saturday, Cue was praised tor his part in coaching the teams that went to the Wheelchair Olympics in 1968, 1972 and 1976, to four Pan Am Games and numerous world championships. “On a_ provincial level, B.C. is Number One. It has always been Number One, thanks to the standards Vic set for his athletes.” said Bill Blair. chairman of the B.C. division of the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association.
