Soccer league heads into 1986

THE PACIFIC Rim Soccer
League is set for an April
1986 kick-off.

On the weekend of April
26, there will be a showcase
exhibition game between the
1985 overall league champi-
on New Westminster Queens
Park Rangers and PRSL cup
winners, Vancouver Colum-
bus.

The opening league game
will take place at Swangard
Stadium April 30 a! 7:30
p.m. Burnaby Beamers will
engage QPR.

Six teams will make up the

Victoria Shooters, Bur-
naby Beamers, QPR and
Vancouver Columbus, the
surviving teams from the
PRSL’s rocky 1985 inaugu-
ral season, will be joined by
two new franchises: United
Soccer Club Richmond and
another as yet unnamed
team.

There are five applicants,
including two from_ the
North Shore, chasing that
franchise.

In accordance with their
second year plans, each club
will be operating a graduate
youth team. Each youth

team will play in regular
competition with other
PRSL clubs, whenever
possible, double headers will
be played with their senior
partners.

The program is part of the
PRSL’s commitment to
youth development. Future
plans include an Under 18
and Under 16 team for all
franchises by 1988.
