January 1989, is constantly work-
ing to strengthen the fabric of
local economic development.

Operating out of 148 East 2nd
St. in North Vancouver and run
by Economic Development Officer
Bonnie Pyplacz, the commission
helps both existing businesses and
potential entrepreneurs.

Current businesses benefit from
the trade shows and presentations
at fairs such as Globe 92 that are
organized by the EDC.

It is in the process of develop-
ing a Business Information
Database that recently won Best
of Class with the American Eco-
nomic Development Council.

Previously, there was no such
thing as a complete list of North
Shore businesses, simply each
municipality’s list of business
licences, which provide little in-
formation that’s in an easily ac-
cessible form.

The database takes the business
licence lists and, by quantifying
the information, allows the user to
