You know, where rotten things keep hap- pening to you, despite the fact that you don’t necessarily deserve it? Well, Pm coming off one of those runs, and 1 don’t care what everybody says, bad things don’t always happen in threes. i { | i In fact, for me, bad things happen in sixes. | My most recent spell of bad luck seems to be centred around bad driving (mine mostly). It started with a team competition at Surrey Municipal Golf Club last Tuesday. I play on a golf team and we had a routine match against the Surrey team. These competitions are normally a lot of fun, except when you're losing to an oppo- nent who's three times your age and half your size, : Anyway, I couldn’t drive the ball worth beans all day, and the end result was thar my partner and IJ lost our match. Instead of sticking around for the post-match beer, we decided to high tail it home and beat the traffic. (Okay, so part of the reason we skipped the beer was the humilia- tion factor.) Apparently T couldn't drive the car worth beans at all that day either, because, just minutes away from the golf course on a short-cut route I stopped at what I assumed was at a four-way stop. 1 was involved in two conversations as | proceeded gaily into the intersection, where we were promptly schmucked by a car coming from the right. Both cars were nearly tozalled. You see, what I foolishly assumed was a four- way stop was, in fact, a two-way stop. The firemen, police, and ambulance all : showed up to help clean up the mess and make sure we were okay. Thankfully no one was seri- ously hurt, but my passenger and golf partner, Bette, got a good bang on her head and we were really shaken up. Add to that the humiliation of having to stand at the corner of 96A and 168th Avenues in Surrey in our fess-than-stunning golf uniforms with our golf bags and sun visors stilt on waiting for a lift home and Vil tell you what.
