New test set for
WV police recruits

Department adopts Justice institute testing

AS of this month, any-
one who wants to join
the West Vancouver
Police Department
must first pass a stan-
dardized test delivered
by the Justice Institute
of B.C.

In the past, the West
Vancouver Police
Department conducied its
own testing. The program
was developed at the request
of the B.C, Municipal Chicis
of Police Association,

A spesial committee was
formed to develop the test,
and the Justice Institute
Police Academy, which trains
all municipal police recruits,
was asked to deliver the pro-
gram.

“Because of the competi-
tive nature of policing, it’s
common for people to apply
to, and be tested by, several
different departments.

“Now theyll only go
through that process once.

“From the department's
perspective they won't have
to commit staff time and
resources to determine if can-
didates meet the minimum
eligibility requirements,” said
Steve Watt, director of the
institute's police academy.

“This new system allows
them to focus on the in
depth recruiting process that

takes place citer the mini:

Institute in New
Westminster.

to explain the program.
