Earthquake relief
fund established

NORTH Shore residents are
helping to coordinate relief
efferts for survivers of a
recent earthquake in Iran.

Thousands of lives were
lost, thousands more injured
and more than 50,009 house-
holds were destroyed by earth-
quake strikes in Azarbiajan, a
Province in the northwest
region of the country, at the
end of February, according to
Kaywan Dashti of West
Vancouver.

Dashti is the liaison
between the earthquake relief
committee and the Red Cross.

Dashti said the community

can help in three ways:
® deposit small bills and
change in donation cans
marked with the Red Cross
symbol and “Earthquake
Relief Fund,” displayed in
most Tranian shops and restau-
rants;
@ Contact Dashti at 443-9650
to make a larger donation and
a receipt will be issued;
@ send donations directly to
the Red Cross, #400 - 4710
