Dukes win championship

Girls gymnastics’ team

wins 26th annual event

AFTER being the bridesmaids the
past two seasons, the Windsor Dukes
girls’ gymnastic team took top
billing away from Handsworth at
the annual North Shore
Championships last weekend.

Led by strong novice and Level | individual
efforts, the Dukes outpninted second-place
Handsworth 134 to 111. The Royals had won
the past nvo championships, so for the Dukes

Windsor’s Ania Mafi claimed top honors in
the novice all-around competition, with team-
mates Julia Kennett and Daniclle Sadler

respectively taking second and third for an all-
Duke podium showing.

Likewise, in Level I action, Windsor’s Irene
Chan led an all-Windsor top three sweep as
Paulina Leung was second and Cheriene
Galley third.

Handsworth’s Amy Wright, (see page 32,
Athlete of the Week) finished Srst in Level 2
competition, with Rockrda’s Brittany
Gustavson taking second and fellow
Rockridge teammate Lauren Karst third.

Balmoral gymnast Katie Christopher was
first, Handsworth’s Karoline Hognestad fin-
ished second and Roc dge’s Claire Pollock
took third in Level 3 action.

And in Level 4, Sutherland’s Kelsey
Fleming claimed the top spot, Handsworth’s
Carmen Dennis was second and Sutherland's
Jennifer Warren was third.

Rockridge finished third in the team com-
petition with 71 points, followed by
Sutherland (58), Balmoral (18), and West
Vancouver (16).
