In doing so, he claimed that evidence given by me and other defence witnesses at the second Zundel trial ‘‘collapsed under . the scrutiny of historians.’’ That is nonsense, and so is his further claim that 5,750,000 Jews were exterminated. A reading of the transcript ‘of the trial suffices to show «that there was no order to ex- ‘terminate the Jews, no plan “(not even at Wannsee), no budget; no expert report stating “this: was .a: homicidal gas chamber’ and no autopsy Teport stating ‘‘this was the body of an inmate killed by poison gas." On- the contrary, proof was delivered’ ‘that ‘the alleged homicidal Nazi gas, chambers ‘could not have existed. After the trial, Arno Mayer, history professor: at Princeton and of . Jewish origin, wrote: “Sources for the study of the gas chambers’ are at once rare ‘| and unreliable. Hill mentioned Jean-Claude Pressac’s 1989 book Auschwitz: Technique and Operation of the Gas Chambers, That title is misleading. According to the author himself, the book con- tains no ‘‘proofs’’ of the crime, but what he calls ‘criminal traces,”” Recently, Pressac published a second book, Les Crematoires d’Auschwitz. There is nothing new in it except that he no longer puts the number of deaths at four million (Nuremberg trial) or 1,500,000 (L.E, Hill) but 775,000 rounded up to 800,000. The real Auschwitz figure might be about 150,000 deaths, due especially to typhus and typhoid. Box 86350, North Vancouver, B.C, V7L 4T5 Insulted by IC Dear Editor: Having recently returned to this fair city from a four-month tour across Canada, | am still without a permanent residence, and living between my Volkswagen van and a friend's living room floor. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain last Tuesday eventing, and } opted to sleep inside where it was warm and dry. My mistake, for ! had forgotten about city living. Needless to say, I awoke the Next morning to an open van that was lacking a stereo, a ‘citizen band radio, and several cassette tapes. Although | was upset, | was rel- atively unconcerned regarding the replacement, as I had faithfully been paying }]CBC $2,320 for the pleasure of owning and operating two vehicles for the past three, years. i I had the owner’s manuals for both items, the receipt for the in- stallation of the CB radio, and a sticker in the van stating when the stereo was installed. In addition, i had contacted the respective retail outlets and obtained -exact replacement costs for the items. One can imagine my.. surprise when I was advised that I could not be compensated for the stereo because there were no obvious signs of entry to the vehicle. I would never leave my vehicle - unlocked in the city, nor would I ever attempt to procure something to which I was not entitled. | was absolutely insulted when I was made to feel like a fraud, cheat, and common criminal. In fairness, 1 must admit that 1 was permitted to apply $75 towards the cost of replacing and installing a new CB radio. Con- sidering that ‘my deductible is $100, the offer was not worth the paper on which it was written.
