Cyclists
should
have
insurance

Dear Editor:

I have been reading Ken Har-
die’s ICBC column regarding auto
insurance coverage and what to
look for when renewing insurance.

I wonder if motorists are aware
of the fact that if they are hit by a
bicyclist all damages and injuries,
both to the motorist and the
bicyclist, are charged to the
motorist?

Bicyclists are not required to
carry insurance, yet they are con-
sidered traffic. If they break the
law by going through a stop sign
or red light, or pass you on the
tight and, as a result, hit your
vehicle, you are liable for dam-
ages.

1 think it is time all motorists,
ICBC, and police see to it that
this law is changed.

Dear Editor:

{ was appalled to read your
March 1 Letter of the Day in
which the author, W.J. Blake-
ly, states that there will be lost
revenue from the use of the
Northlands tract of  district-
owned land for a golf course
amounting to $43,700,000.

This is totally untrue.

In the long run, revenue
from a public golf course will
more than offset its expenses.
There will be ro lost profit to
the district. On the contrary,

Northlands will reap revenue

there will be Jarge returns and

the district will not lose any of

its land that is used for a much
needed public golf course.

1am told that no municipali-
ty has ever made any money by
seHing land for development.
The income received from the
sale has to be spent and then
some. If you do not believe it,
just look at Surrey, or look at
the District of North Van-
couver.
