Cap grads display crafts

FOR EIGHT months of the year,
crafts students at Capilano College
are to be found closeted in rooms
in the A building, leaning intently
over spinning wheels or com-
plicated looms, mixing batches of
dyes with garishly stained hands or
heaving about slabs of wet clay.
Passers-by find this activity in-
triguing and frequently stick their

heads in the door to watch.

An opportunity to see the results
of all this activity will be presented
in early May when the graduating
students from the crafts diploma
program put on a show at the
Istand Gallery on Granville Island.

This display of pottery, ceramic
sculpture, weaving and fabric
painting represents two years of

work and imagination.

The display runs May 3 to 10 at
the Island Gallery, 1551 Duranleau
St. The gallery is open daily from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is
free.

Starting this fall, the program
has been changed to the Clay and
Textile Arts Program. Students
will now take a foundation year,

followed by a year in which they
Specialize either in clay or textile
arts.

Among the courses offered in
the program are ceramic sculpture,
Pottery, surface textile design,
weaving, dye technology and mar-
keting and promotion.

Prints donated

A NORTH Vancouver woman
has donated a limited edition
print of a Robert Bateman print
to the Golden Retriever Club of
B.C.

Donna Shaw made the dona-
tion of the print entitled The
Osprey Family.

The club has chosen to split
proceeds raised from the print
taffle with the Vancouver
branch of the Canadian Guide
Dogs for the Blind.
