The programs begin with T-ball for the youngest players and range through farm, minor, major, Joe Shea, senior and big leagues. In West Vancouver, the Pony and Colt leagues have merged with the little league, and Cypress Park COACHES SOCCER CUP Old-timers biank Nordic NORVAN OLD-TIMERS blanked Lynnwood Nordic 2-0 recently to take the coveted Coaches Soccer League (CSL) Kilbey Cup. Neither tam could gain the ini- tial upper hand in the hard-fought contest and the first half ended scoreless. The second half continued to be a taut defensive struggle until Norvan right winger Tony Morrow hammered home a low volley from a sharp angle for a superb goal with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Eas: division winners Lynnwood pressed for the equalizer, but Nor- van’s Dave Stockdale pounced on a loose ball in front of the net and slipped in the insurance marker. That 2-0 result also counted toward the standings for the Olympia Gold Cup round, from which the top four of 14 teams will advance to the semi-finals. With their regular season sched- ule wrapped up, CSL teams have started a seven-week, inter-divi- sional cup round involving ail teams. Other results from the first week of cup round action were Olympia Goldcaps doubling Mt. Seymour Ravens 6-3, Lynn Vatfey downing Park Royal Hotel 3-1, Totemcolor Afl-stars blanking Coach House 1-0, Queens Cross Rangers battling Millers :o a 1-1! draw, and Lynnwood Brewers shutting out Characters Restau- rant, and Germania F.C. flushing Ray Johnson Plumbing, both by 2-0 scores. The second week of cup play saw Lynn Valley win their second straight to lead the standings as they shut out Totemcolor All-stars 3-0 on goals by John Seeley, Jack Simington, and Gary Collins on a penalty-kick. Queens Cross Rangers, mean- while, also posted an impressive win, blanking Coach House 4-0. Terry McQueen, with a pair, John Rice and Iain MacKay scored goals in front of the shut-out goalkeep- ing of Karel ‘‘Greensleeves”’ Groeneveld. Elsewhere, Mt. Seymour Ravens held Lynnwood Nordic to a 1-1 draw, Park Royal Hotel topped Olympia Gofdcaps 2-0, Characters Restaurant Grubbed Millers 4-0, Lynnwood Brewers nipped Ray Johnson Plumbing 1-0, and Nor- van edged Germania F.C. 3-2. NSWC hockey team overwhelms Richmond THE NORTH Vancouver Recre- ation Centre Midget AAA hockey team ran into hard-hitting Bur- naby Winter Club (BWC) in the opening game of the Lower Mainland playoffs, being played at the North Shore Winter Club, and lost 5-2. NVRC qualified for the playoffs by winning their final two league games. In the second game of the playoffs, the host Nerth Shore Winter Club team, who finished third in league play, overwhelmed fast-skating Richmond 8-3. The first game Feb. 17 featured a battle of undefeated NSWC and BWC teams with NSWC prevailing 6-3. At the end of the first period NSWC led 2-1, then exploded for three goals in the second period on the way to a 6-3 victory. In the second game of the night, North Vancouver Recreation Cen- tre scored early in the first period, but Richmond came back with two quick goals and cruised to an easy 9-3 victory. The remaining six games, all played at NSWC,, were played Monday and Tuesday and will wrap up Thursday. Games begin at 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. The winner of the playoffs will advance to Nanaimo to represent the Lower Mainland in the provin- cial finals next month.
