The good times were had at a breakfast prior to the North Shore Argos play-off game Sunday, i COACHES SOCCER Ravens THE MOUNT Seymour Ravens trimmed the Queens Cross Rangers 3-2 Oct. 12 to retain their hold on first place in the Western Division of the Coaches Soccer League. The Ravens opened the scoring when Brad Kirk pounced on a loose ball in the Rangers’ penalty area and lobbed it into the net. Queens Cross battled back to even the count before halftime as John Rice took a through ball from Art Spicer and picked up the top corner of the goal. The Ravens applied offensive pressure in the game’s second half and were finally rewarded when, with only 10 minutes remaining, Kirk took a dangerous a throw-in and slipped it past the Rangers’ keeper. But the Cross refused to give in and scored the equalizer five minutes later when Rice’s hard drive from the left wing deflected into the roof of the net off de- fender Jim Garrett. The last minutes of furious ac- tion saw Kirk complete his hat trick by heading in a corner kick only to have a penalty called at the other end in the dying seconds. But goalie Colin Brierly saved the day for the Ravens by out- guessing Iain MacKay to stop the shot and preserve the win. In other action in the league’s sixth week of play, Norvan jumped into sole possession of second place in the West by dropping Totemcolor 5-1. A scheduled divisional interlock- ing match between Park Royal Hotel and Olympia Goldcaps was postponed. Ray Johnson Plumbing recorded its first win of the season by dum- ping Characters Restaurant 3-1. Eastern Division leader Lynn- wood Nordic maintained its perfect record and opened up a four-point bulge atop the standings with a 3-1 defeat of Lynn Valley, the team’s nearest rival. In other maiches, Germania Old-Timers defeated Coach House Hotspurs 4-1 to vault into sole possession of third place and Lyn- nwood Brewers shut out Millers 2-0.
